The first ten symposia were called the all-Union Symposia on High Resolution Molecular Spectroscopy. From 1993 (Volga river, Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod - Moscow) HighRus became an International Symposium.
A brief history of the Symposium was outlined in the Preface to the HighRus special issue of JQSRT (2010, 111/15).
